HEY, GIRLFRIEND!
THIS WEEKEND’S
FOR YOU
JUNE
1-3, 2007
Art sales on the street, belly
dancing and a gallery of quilts are a few of the weekend events on
June 1, 2 and 3 that flavor this come-with-your-gal-pals getaway to
Berkeley Springs, girlie
capital of West Virginia. Add to the list the fabulous all-girl jam
session and Tiara Time at Tari’s
Cafe on Sunday afternoon and this sixth annual Hey, Girlfriend
getaway is irresistible.
With open-daily spas and blocks of unusual shops, Berkeley
Springs is
always attractive to discerning women, both residents and visitors. The
place goes all out on this first weekend in June to celebrate the sisters,
cousins, college roommates and carpooling moms who need time away with
just the girls.
The fun begins on First Friday with antique cars in the park and drumming
with belly dancers on the street in front of Portals new
age shop. Shops,
businesses, the Roman Baths and
the Origin
Spa all stay open late on
Friday. Even the movie theater joins in. The vintage Star
Theatre is
showing "Hog Wild" at
8pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.
All-day
Saturday, the street in front of Tari’s
Cafe is the scene
of a mini-fair of local women artists, and rare astrological mini-readings
are offered next door at the Star Theatre from
noon to 4pm.
Tari’s Cafe and Gallery is the heart of Hey, Girlfriend activities
on Sunday when Tari gathers musical females for Torch and Twang, an all-girl
jam session from 2 to 5pm partnered with the exclusive Tiara Time when
girlfriends position their tiaras, or grab one from the common box. Long
cigarette holders and feather boas are also encouraged.
For
our outdoor girlfriends, meet at Cacapon
State Park on Saturday for a
spectacular hike along the ridgetop of Cacapon Mountain. The ten-mile
distance across Cacapon Mountain tracks north from the Virginia line
to a view of the Maryland state line at the Potomac River -- and it's
flat. Participants will receive a certificate and small incentive from
WV Parks for hiking on this special day. Begin at 8AM at the Nature Center
at Cacapon State Park with shuttle service at the end of the hike.
In between all the special events are the standard attractions of this
historic spa town.
Girlfriends can assemble their own spa
tour, sampling
among 53 different body treatments at five
spas ranging from European
facials and La Stone massage to acupuncture and mud wraps. Hot new treatment
this year is Lomi Lomi, sacred Hawaiian massage available at Atasia
Spa.
Dining choices are
varied and where to stay depends of how many girlfriends are in the group
and whether you choose town or countryside.
If chocolate is your passion and elegance your preferred setting, stay
this weekend at Highlawn Inn,
enjoy complimentary wine and gourmet chocolate. At Villa
Firenze,
girlfriends stay 2 nights and get 3rd night free. Other lodging
choices include state
park cabins, resort chalets with whirlpool tubs, log houses on a mountain
top, in-town cottages and B & B's with marvelous breakfasts and first-rate
service.
Three attributes of Berkeley
Springs make it an ideal choice for getting
away with the girls -- it is affordable, less than 90 minutes from the
Washington or Baltimore Beltways, and filled with folks who still know
how to smile.

Hey Girlfriend Weekend

HEY, GIRLFRIEND! THIS WEEKEND’S FOR YOU
June 2-4, 2006
BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV ---- REPORT ON 2005......In May 2005, USA Today reported
that girlfriend weekends were a hot, new trend. Berkeley Springs was a
month away from its 4th annual Hey, Girlfriend! weekend. The moral of
this story? While the rest of the world is just catching up, we're old
hands at the trend. As the pictures show, Hey, Girlfriend! 2005 was a
big hit. Clusters of women roamed the streets. "Steel Magnolias"
opened at the Ice House to rave reviews. Girlfriends lined up for astrological
mini-readings and rotated their hips in belly dancing classes. Art was
highlighted at an Artwalk and three gallery show openings and it was sold
on the streets. Some brought their own tiaras and boas, others wore the
"house" tiaras. Torch and Twang even lured Tari of Tari's Cafe
to her own microphone for an afternoon of old time tunes.
HEY,GIRLFRIEND! 2006 has some favorite events back for a 5th time including
Torch and Twang and Tiara Time at Tari's on Sunday; Wild Women Artists
on the Street and mini-star readings on Saturday. Make
your plans now!
